The exercise:

If this works I'll be shocked.

Edit: Well I'll be. Hurray for technology doing what it's supposed to do!

Anyway, le prompte: ask the question.

Mine:

"Does anyone have a question?" the teacher growled with angry eyes. His gaze latched onto a pale, quaking hand near the back and he grunted in its direction.

"Um, excuse me, sir?" a weak voice wavered across the room.

"Well," the teacher snapped, "that's not much of a question at all!"

La Question

When the day comes
that I make the Great Voyage
to listen to the angels sing

I will meet St. Peter
and ask one question:
“Do I look fat in these wings?”

Well, it worked, so congratulations! Then a little rap on the wrist to reprimand you for not telling people that this is four-line prose Friday....
That said, I really rather like Monica's poem, so it's a good thing you didn't set that stricture at the start!
And yours reminds me of my schooldays. Only some of which were the happiest of my life :)

Ask the question

Billy strode purposefully into the library, his shiny black school shoes clicking on the polished wood floors and goosebumps standing out on his legs above his uniform grey socks. In his hand he clutched the grubby, dog-eared piece of paper that contained his homework assignment. He reached the librarian's desk, glanced at the page, and asked as loudly as he dared,"Where are the books on suicide?"
"I'm going to tell your parents what you're trying to do, Billy Martin," said the librarian, not even bothering to look up.

Greg, your bit reminded me of something that happened to a friend of mine. Her english class was doing a Shakespeare concordance search, and her word was "death," so being the artistic person she is she doodled it all over a folder of hers... they sent her down to the guidance office, concerned that she was contemplating suicide... the thing we all found hysterical is that she would be the last person to do such a thing.

Unfortunately, I can't offer anything by way of a response to the prompt at the moment. My brain's too fuzzy from heat and exhaustion to function properly. Ah well, I'll think about it.

Monica - haha, that's brilliant.

Greg - what? Ah, crap, you're right. Tempted to just edit it in and pretend that you're crazy though.

And yeah, there be the dangers in researching things in the library. Thank goodness for the internet :)

g2 - I can sympathize completely, I have definitely been there. Come back and write when your head's ready to go :)
