The exercise:

Four Line Friday Prose presents: tied up in knots.

Mine:

I have given presentations to hundreds of strangers hundreds of times. I have inspired them to demand more of themselves. To reach heights they previously thought belonged only to their betters.

But when I’m alone with you my tongue gets tied up in knots.

My offering for today....5 Line prose:

Having pressed the doorbell Jim stood before the door, hands trembling, causing the corsage held between his two sweaty palms to shake. A dog began to bark inside the house and as the door began to open, his eyes moved from the knob to the classic beauty standing before him. His stomach felt tied up in knots and when he swallowed he wasn’t sure if it was his lunch coming back up or his Adams apple getting stuck in his throat. There must be some mistake, he thought. Her SeniorsDatingNet.com profile said she was seventy-two but she certainly didn't look a day over sixty-five.

Well, well... somebody's quite tied up in knots, yes? Oh, now there's no use struggling, can't you see it's pointless?

Oh dear, quite the fighter, are we? We can't have that around here... not without consequence.

Hm. A bit weirder and possibly creepier than I usually do, but hey. You gave prompt. I had inspiration. Four lines of prose ensued.

Tsk Marc, "Coming soon..." isn't even four words, let alone four lines!

Tied up in knots
"Sir, we have a problem! The engines are locked at sixty knots, there's no way to slow the ship down!"
The Captain of the Faebreak sighed loudly, but inwardly felt panic gnawing at his guts. If they couldn't slow the ship... they literally were tied up in knots.

I pulled and tugged, frustration giving way to panic. If I couldn't get her free,if I pulled any harder, the kitten might lose her leg. I followed the loops around her and found the one to cut. I quickly unwound her and massaged the swollen leg, sighing with relief that she was free.

(based on an incident with my St. Bernard when he wrapped his foot in cable)

Salynne - hmm, cheating I see. Well... I'll let it slide, this time :P

But really, that extra line is so totally worth it. Brilliant :)

g2 - hah, I likes. Most sinister!

Greg - bah humbug. I'll keep that in mind for next time :P

And I love the reference to your weapons test story :)

Elsha - eek, pets can really get themselves in a tangle, can't they? I've had more than one dog create some very interesting puzzles with their leash.
