The exercise:

Your Two Haiku Tuesday topic this week: at the dentist's office.

This afternoon I visited the dentist for the first time in... a while. It wasn't that bad, but I wrote my haiku before hand. Call it a coping strategy.

I think this is actually the first time my two are related to each other.

Mine:

Dentist's waiting room
Fills with screaming and shouting -
Time to start drinking.

* * *

There's no place like home.
There's no place like - "Sir? You're next."
Time to buy new shoes.

I'm no fan of the dentist either, but I'm learning that every time I put it off, it just makes the next visit that much harder to make. sigh And I should probably book a check-up in the next couple of months too.

Hehe, your haikus do a good job of reflecting the fear of the waiting room! I like the second one better myself.

at the dentist's office

Savage dentistry
When winter closes the roads;
Never smile again

------

You paid your dentist
Good money for teeth so white.
Smile like you mean it

I hate the dentist too. Just thinking about it makes me convulse.

Marc: Loved both, especially the second one. I'm going to buy red sparkly shoes for my next visit.

Greg: Excellent. I liked both of them equally.

both hands thrust in mouth
plus umpteen tools and gadgets—
and he wants to talk

lecture on brushing,
finger-wag about fillings—
then hand out suckers

Greg - I like the second one better too :)

"Smile like you mean it" is a great finishing line for your second one. I have to confess I don't understand your first one though.

Monica - thanks :)

Oh my God, your first one just made me laugh out loud. It's perfect! Oh jeez, your second one is almost as good too. Brilliant!

Marc ... you don't understand Greg's first one because you live in BC. Spend one winter in an Ontario snow belt and you'll understand what he means.
