The exercise:

Two haiku about: lawyers.

Don't feel any need to play nice :)

It's a beautiful day out and I'm just waiting for the carpenter to arrive so I can help him fix up the cabin doors. I think I shall chop some wood for a while...

One week until my birthday, just under two weeks until the start of NaNoWriMo. Exciting times!

Mine:

He charges by the
second and moves just like a
doped up three-toed sloth

*     *     *

He'll argue for you
with all of his heart and soul,
though he has neither

marc, i support my writing by working in a law firm, so i think i will have to play nice...NOT! i just won't post my haiku in my blog for today :-))

your poem captures the general perception for lawyers. it's not true as most of them are nice. the ones in big firms are ruled by firm policies and they sometimes take it upon themselves to cut some of their time to give clients a break. and most times, if the client asks for a discount, they will give it. a long time ago, in another time and place, i studied to be a lawyer so i could appreciate their predicament.

---
he studies the law
so he wins your case for you
now pay him the dough

ruthless and pushy
charismatic but sneaky
and they're never free.

That wood you're chopping, you're doing it wrong.... Have you got anything planned for your birthday then? And how's the NaNoWriMo prep going? I have an idea, some characters and a rough plot for it, but I'm not sure I'll have time this year. Funny, I think I was in this situation last year too!

@Summerfield: they're both good haiku! I think I like your second better.

@Marc: I prefer your second as well today. Of course, I'm English and my other half is a solicitor, so I have a slightly different view of that profession. That and law has a surprising amount in common with mathematics.

Mine:

The law is precise,
Argued from definitions,
By odd men in wigs.

--------

The judge is angry:
My lawyer says I'm guilty,
Ugly and a fool.

Marc – that’s very nice, I like the description for both of your haikus. Not a bad way to turn them into a bad guy :)

Summerfield – I like both of your haikus! And through your second haiku, I think I know a little bit more about the lifestyle of a lawyer, thanks for sharing that! :)

Greg – both of your haikus are great! Your first haiku is like filled with pre-defined mathematics which is so precise and your second is on the next level of emotions. :)

Mine:

True lawyers practice the law
by revealing the truth
with all the solid proof.

***

Knights and warriors
cross path in the battlefield –
That’s exactly what lawyers do.

Summerfield - ah, all in good fun, as always. I don't think I've ever dealt with a lawyer directly myself, so I can't say I have any real opinion of them one way or another.

And I would never have pegged you as working in a law firm :) I imagine it's a very interesting place to work.

Love your second haiku.

Greg - a dinner out for my birthday with Kat, then one of my sisters and her husband are coming up for the weekend so I'll probably do something with them as well.

NaNo prep is going great. I'm about ready to get started, just adding on bits of details to my outline and character sheet.

'By odd men in wigs' is a fantastic line :D

Zhongming - I love both of yours this week! The first one slightly more, for the rhyme :)

Humberto - thanks for stopping by, I hope to see you again soon and that you'll share some writing with us :)
