The exercise:

A four line poem about: the promotion.

Had a very busy long weekend market this morning, selling a whole lot of apples and most everything else we brought. Plus we had a visit from Kat's brother, sister-in-law, and our niece, and then my sister Sue and her husband Jake joined us for the finish of the market before following us home.

Spent a relaxed and fun afternoon/evening with them, and now I'm looking forward to a big turkey dinner tomorrow night.

Mine:

He's worked so long and hard,
At last he will be rewarded...
But then his boss informs him:
A promotion can't be afforded.

Wow, it sounds like a very busy day! What kind of apples are you selling then? I picked some up yesterday at a local farmer's market, but they were unlabelled. Which is a shame as they are crisp, sweet, and just very slightly tart, and I'd love to know their name to get more.
Heh, that poem sounds like it harkens back to your corporate days!

The promotion
Let me tell you of Major General,
A man with a short, sad story.
For his part in the five-days-war,
He was "promoted to glory."

Greg - apples we were selling yesterday: aurora, ambrosia, gala, spartans, mutsu.

I wouldn't be surprised if you had to look most of those up.

You should go back to the stall you got those apples from (if you remember who it was) and ask what the variety is (if the seller doesn't know, I'd consider that a bad sign...).

Yeah, that's not the promotion I'd be hoping for in that situation.

Haha, the only apples I've not heard of on your list are mutsu! Spartans and Gala are pretty common over here, Aurora and Ambrosia I don't think I've seen.
Do you have Bramleys over there in North America? I've never seen them used in American recipes, though here you wouldn't make an apple-pie without them.

The only one I recognize on that list would be the Gala. Although, Spartans sound, for some reason, like a very cool apple themselves. I may just be prejudice to the name.

In fact, I think I may use that to move along the creative process for my poem here.

Driven by just one belief,
And finally he became,
The one known as Master Chief.

Greg - Aurora is a very new variety, and Ambrosia was actually discovered here in BC, so I'm not surprised you haven't seen it.

I've not heard of Bramley, but my apple education feels like it's only just beginning :)

Drake - I'm glad you were able to find inspiration in that list :D
