The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: the movers.

I am both tired and sleepy. Also, I need to get up early tomorrow.

So, good night.

Mine:

The moving truck appeared in our cul-de-sac one morning, with no warning that any of us could remember. No For Sale sign, no open houses, no real estate agents or appraisers.

The two movers worked tirelessly all day, lugging the innards of the house across the lawn before depositing them in the back of the truck.

My wife and I were quite impressed with their work ethic... right up until the police arrived to arrest them for breaking and entering and robbery.

Heh, I've heard stories about that kind of robbery before, though usually far enough removed to be urban legends. It's a pretty clever idea for a large-scale burglary though, and you describe it very well in just four lines.
Hope the market is fun for you tomorrow!

The movers
Miss Snippet had stared at the headmaster's decree for quite a long time before coming up with a solution. "All classes," it read, "must produce an interpretive dance troupe for the end-of-term pageant." She'd had to go away and look up what interpretive dance could mean before she'd finally worked out how to meet the letter of the demand without endangering her work schedules.
"The movers," she announced proudly as her class ran on stage, still dressed like navvies and wielding shovels and pickaxes, "interpreting heavy plant machinery!"

Ditto what Marc said - only I've got ice cream custard to make and I failed at the first batch *sigh*

(I probably shouldn't be drinking on the job.) :}

The Movers

They come and take your stuff away.

All the stuff you've packed into boxes and everything else that's not nailed down.

And you're left with an empty house and an empty feeling, heart sinking to the floor.

Until your imagination cuts loose, and thinks about what could fill that space and what will fill that space and the excitement of where you're going.

Greg - ha, that's quite the image your scene has planted in my mind :D

Cathryn - I disagree, drinking on the job can only help!

I don't think there are too many things sadder than a house you've lived in for a long time standing empty, devoid of all your things.

But yes, thinking of how those things will fit into your new home helps alleviate some of that sadness :)
