The exercise:

Write about: the debate.

I understand there are a series of these going on south of the border nowadays. I'm not watching them though, as I generally find them either boring, infuriating, or both.

All the squash is now safely out of the garden.

Coincidentally, I am now safely out of energy.

Mine:

Reggie studied his notes in the hours leading up to the debate, refusing to be distracted by the summer afternoon beckoning at his window. No interruptions were allowed, his assistant standing guard at his door made sure of that.

Elsewhere his outfit was being finalized, his shoes polished, and a stylist used unhappy volunteers to practice the haircut he would be providing to his chosen candidate. Excessive noise was officially banned, and any conversations that rose above a whisper were quickly and brutally dealt with by Reggie's regiment of bodyguards.

As the big moment approached Reggie set aside his papers and turned his focus within. He was ready. His opponent didn't stand a chance against the onslaught he was about to unleash. Victory was assured.

The school would have a new student president by the end of second recess.

Sadly, though I live south of your boarder I find these debates to be the same as you do....

It's a choice between two evils.
And heaven forbid they show them selves to be human and slip up...

"it depends on what your definition of Is Is..." great Presidential quote, poor guy caught with his pants down and you expect him to be a God and speak properly.

Not that many of them do - products of rich families, trying to lead the country and get their own agendas acomplished, if they even know what that agenda is. Most of the time it's all stalemates because no one wants to alientate anyone for fear of losing their suppporting money.

It just gives me a headach...

No see what you did? I go rabmbling on about how I feel about politics, when you asked for prose on the debate.

I think Reggie's going to go far, providing he doesn't get assassinated. *grins*

Cathryn - yeah, I think it would be amazingly refreshing if a candidate just went out there and was him- or herself. Take 'em or leave 'em, but at least you'd know who they really are.

And yes, I have high hopes for Reggie as well :P
