The exercise:

Write two haiku that have something to do with: first aid.

Spent most of the day at the community center taking a first aid course. Mostly to learn about first aid for infants, but also because I hadn't had any training since a few classes in grade 12 P.E. that nobody took very seriously.

Except maybe the instructor.

Don't ask me, it's not like I was paying attention.

Mine:

Everyone relax,
I'm a trained professional.
Stand - ugh! What IS that?

*     *     *

Briefcase in hand he
heads to work, always ready
to save someone's life.

First Aid

Bandage here and there
Applying a tourniquet
Cardiac restart

Pound, pound, pound and breathe
In and out the air goes go
Water leaving lungs

Okay I confess I’m horrible at first aide and have never really learned it. I had to take my son to the emergency room when he stuck a vitamin up his nose (funny story now, though we were feeding off each other’s hysterics at the time).

@Cathryn: I think I like your second haiku better today :) I think a lot of first aid looks better in hindsight than at the time!

@Marc: I think I prefer your first haiku today, as I suspect it's a common sentiment among first aiders. I've done a couple of first aid courses, usually either for work or sporting activities, but I think a calm head and some common sense is actually the most important thing to have. Oh, and a phone for an ambulance when it's serious!

First aid
First aid or last rites?
I wish I could see him breathe,
So I could pick one.

----------
Thank-you for caring
But the bandage you gave me
Can't stick my leg back.

Cathryn - hah, I could easily picture myself panicking in that situation as well :)

I'm with Greg on this one, definitely think your second haiku is best this week.

Greg - yeah, I think you've got it pretty much spot on. Like our instructor told us, if all you do is call 911 then you've done your job.

Hah, your second one wins the day as well this week :D
