The exercise:

Write two haiku about: originality.

Max is getting his first round of vaccinations tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it. Kat is not looking forward to it. Max?

He has no idea what the morning has in store for him.

Here's hoping it goes as smoothly as possible.

Mine:

Forget trends and fads,
who cares what everyone says?
I gotta be me.

Well, if Max is anything like my dog (and here I mean in terms of anticipation and short-term memories rather than number of legs and wet nose ;-) ) then I'd just have something he likes a lot along with you, preferably edible, to give him straight after the vaccinations are done. It seems to work as a combination of distraction from what's just happened, plus something pleasurable to speed up the overwriting of the memories of the unpleasant thing.
Oh, and you should be as cheerful as you can about it so Max doesn't pick up on your apprehension :)
I like both haikus today, and can't really choose between them. Perhaps the first very slightly?

Originality

She claims she's never
had originality.
Her lies are unique....

I used to give my kids infant Tylenol right before the shots, but now I'm thinking they don't make infant Tylenol anymore -- too many overdoses. Cold packs on the legs afterwards will help.
--------------
To be original
Is to be unique -- new
And different.

Greg - I think containing my own nerves was probably the hardest part of the visit. I just tried to focus on keeping Max happy.

Love your second haiku. There's a story in there, I think.

Morganna - the kid's Tylenol was suggested to us, but I'd also read that it might be worth doing the first one without, just to see how he reacts. If it's needed then we could use it for the rest of his shots - I'm thinking we probably will.

I think your poem sums up the idea of originality quite nicely :)

Staff at "The One" store
All wear black tee shirts that read:
“Be unique.” Funny!

Delta - hah! I wonder if they're even aware of the humour...
