The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: the wishing well.

Heading back to the market tomorrow with a truck loaded down with produce to sell. Lots of apricots, apples, plums, cabbages, even a few pints of blackberries and a couple of cucumbers.

The forecast is calling for a hot day, so here's hoping the crowds are hungry.

Mine:

Drop a dollar in the well and your wish is guaranteed to come true - but only if you don't tell a soul what you wished for!

What absolute nonsense. The soulless monster getting rich off of all these desperate saps should be arrested or, better yet, taken out back and put down.

That sounds like quite the haul for the market! I hope you've got sufficient shade if it's going to be a hot day :)
Well done on catching up on the comments as well!
Heh, I like the twist ending to yours! I like to believe that your narrator was wishing for the soulless monster to be put down after all.

The Wishing Well
It was sucha simple idea that the bears couldn't believe they'd not thought of it before. They broke into a garden centre one night and made off with a twee little wishing well and a charity-collection box. Then they set it up in a small dell just inside the woods, and poured the contents of the charity box inside it.
Then, while people paused at the well to find a coin or think about what to wish for, the bears pounced.

Greg - well, most of the comments. *Now* I'm all caught up :P

Hah, that is a rather simple but brilliant plan. I think it would totally work... so I shall neglect to inform our local bear population.
