The exercise:

Write a four line poem about something: odd.

It was a bit of a strange market this morning, as things were moving very slowly. We didn't sell our final pint of raspberries until after noon and typically we're sold out of berries by eleven at the latest. And when we only have a few to begin with?

We're lucky to make it to opening before they're all gone.

Like, just as an example, our three pints of blackberries this morning.

We also brought home a lot of apricots, which was disappointing. Hopefully between our local customers, the bakery, and the restaurant we'll be able to move most of them. Plus if we can keep them in the cooler they might still be good for next weekend.

But from speaking to a few other vendors, it sounds like it was a slow day for everyone. I guess it was too hot for a street market for a lot of people, so they went to the beach instead?

Mine:

People just keep walking...
Are they blind? Can't they see?
We've got lovely produce...
What's wrong? They want it free?

I think people feel less hungry in the heat – certainly I'll find that it's getting quite late and I've not actually eaten anything, just drunk fluids. Then you go to bed and realise that you're actually very hungry.... So maybe people were walking past and not really realising what was on offer because of the heat? Or not even thinking about the market because of it. They'll regret it of course come mid-week when they'd really like a juicy apricot in the afternoon sunshine... :)
Still, it sounds like you've contingency plans, and that's probably the key thing!
And the poem very neatly sums up your post!

Odd
She fixed him with her steely gaze
And bade him get her scrod.
"I've never heard that tense before,"
He said, "I find it odd."

[Ok, confession time, it's a version of an old joke. A very posh lady steps into a New York cab and says, "Take me to where I can get scrod," imperiously. The taxi driver doesn't even hesitate before replying, "Jeez, lady, I've never heard it in the pluperfect subjunctive before, but here we go!"]

Greg - yeah, I tend to lose my appetite in the heat as well. Perhaps that had something to do with it.

Hah. Well, it's a fine version, in my opinion :)
