The exercise:

Write a four line poem about something that is: impending.

I would not recommend working an eight and a half hour shift, the vast majority of which is spent interacting with people, on four hours of sleep. It was doable, obviously, and everything went fine.

But I still would not recommend it.

On the plus side, once I get through my Monday evening shift I don't have to work again until next Saturday. I am ready for the break.

Mine:

Storm painted horizon,
Redder than a desert dune.
Watchers on the wall know:
Vengeance will be coming soon.

Hmm, I think the prompts are suggestive of your mindset at the moment! Four hours sleep isn't really enough for a day spent engaging with people, and you don't even have a hangover to justify it! I hope you get to spend most of Tuesday in bed and re-invigorating!
I do like the poem though, did you really write that after so little sleep and a long shift? I'm very impressed!

Impending
Send mortars, guns and knives,
For war is now impending.
We may lose a million lives,
But this war must have an ending.

Impending
The clouds fall gracefully low
Everything becomes dim, without color
The air is thick and hard to breathe
Nothing is surreal and everything is here

Greg - I felt like I should have been hungover, especially when I was tidying up the empties.

I wrote the first version of it while I was still at work. I ended up changing the final line that evening though.

Hmm, that's a rather depressing poem. Very well done, obviously, but a stance that has been seen in politics far too often for my liking.

Shelby - great opening line, and the remainder of the poem follows it so smoothly. Nice work :)
