The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: the lie detector.

Back in Kaleden tonight after a fairly productive time at home. The Osoyoos home, not the... oh, never mind.

Feel like I had something else to say. Oh well, maybe I'll remember tomorrow.

Mine:

I know she adores me *BEEP*
Huh? What did I say?
Aw man, I am such a creep.
No beep that time... hey!

I really wish I could be productive, especially now that class is starting up again.

The Lie Detector:

Wet palms, halting breath,
Your eyes reading my face.
I only pray you can see the truth
Before the machine senses the lie

Lies, all lies
I'm sure
Everyone is out to
See me fail.

@Morganna: I wish I was as good at constructing acrostic poems and haiku as you! The poem's just perfect, capturing its subject exactly, like a little koan.

@Marc: Ah, the difficulty of explaining to people which home you're in at the moment... #firstworldproblems :-P
Glad you got safely back to the temporary one anyway :) As for something else you had to say, perhaps you were going to tell us about the year-long prompt theme?
Well, your lie detector seems to be working perfectly, unluckily for your narrator ;-)

The lie detector
She says that they're her lie detectors,
I say they're her fists.
I say there's no need to use them,
She frowns, and she insists.

Thank you, Greg!

Ivybennet - I feel like I would fail a lie detector while telling the truth because I'd be so nervous. I think this poem captures that scenario perfectly.

Morganna - Greg's got it pretty well covered on this one, so I'll just mention I like it equally well and leave it at that.

Greg - ugh, thank you for the reminder. In all the chaos of moving and going back and forth it had utterly slipped my mind. But now I'm all excited to get started on Wednesday and see who joins in and what we all do with my beginning!

Hah, love your poem. Loads of fun to read aloud :D

The Lie Detector

Steady hand without a tremor
Clear voice without guile
Friendly smile without deceit
Yet my dog knows it's his bath time

Aholiab - hahaha... I was not expecting that final line. Beautifully setup, and it finds a home with me, as my family always had a dog when I was growing up.
