The exercise:

It's St. Patrick's Day, so write two haiku about: Ireland.

Ah, home again. Not planning on travelling anywhere else for the foreseeable future.

Had a very smooth road trip from Vancouver. Mid-day on a Tuesday in mid-March is definitely a good time to make that drive, as there was hardly any traffic to speak of.

We went straight to Kat's parents house when we got here, where Max's cousin Natalie was awaiting his arrival. Max was more interested in playing with his toys, and wasn't especially keen to share them. Oh well, she's here for a week, so there's plenty of time for them to start playing nicely together once again.

Tomorrow... I'll have to remember what needs doing around here. It's been awhile.

Mine:

Home of unending
green, one of the loveliest
lands I've ever seen

*     *     *

For one day each year
the whole wide world unites and
we are all Irish

Travel is a good way to remind you of all the virtues of home, and when you don't enjoy coming home any more you know it's time to move on to the next place. A bit like a murder-hobo really :)
I like your first haiku better today, though my experience of Ireland (being largely Dublin and its environs) has more built-up areas and run-down parts to it than the green necessarily.

Ireland
He told me he's got
All the luck of the Irish...
But they want it back.

---------
Celebrate the fact
St. Patrick drove the snakes out
And made Ireland safe

[Well that's the legend anyway!]

Beautiful green land
Art, culture, violence, all
Rest here in the green.

Brave people stand strong
Against all invaders
Almost done by famine.

Lovely haiku, all of you! I've been to Ireland once and greatly miss it. Especially today!

Ireland:

Atop grassy knolls,
Between stony walls of old,
I stand tall and watch.

I see deep greens and
Smell he earthy scent of peat.
I know I am home.

Greg - oh goodness, Dublin was my least favorite part of Ireland. Do yourself a favor and get out of the city next time you're there!

Haha, I love your first one this week. That final line was unexpectedly perfect :D

Morganna - really like your first one as well. That's a very nice summation.

Ivybennet - my three weeks in Ireland contain some of my favorite memories from my six months backpacking around Europe. I'd love to go back one day.

Two lovely haiku. I can't pick a favorite between them.
