The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: the comedown.

The Canucks raced out to an early 3-0 lead this evening, which had me feeling pretty good. The final score, 7-4 in Calgary's favor, left me in a much different mood.

Two positive takeaways that I'm trying to focus on? First: I'm pretty sure that if they had managed to win the series against the Flames, Vancouver was going to get crushed by Anaheim. Now that's Calgary's fate.

The other: I didn't watch a single minute of the game, I was just keeping tabs on the score on and off all night. During the third period, when things nosedived off a cliff for the Canucks, I was actually out in town checking out a friend's photography exhibit and chatting with friends.

So there's that, I guess.

Mine:

The lofty peaks
Were almost mine...
Now I'm tangled
In thorny vines

Well it definitely sounds like the Canucks were intending to win with that start! I guess Calgary were just as determined though... but it sounds like it must have been a real fight for a lot of the match. And as you say, you were doing other things, so you're less personally invested :) Was the photography good? And were you looking at thinking "Well I can do that" or "I wonder how they do that?" :)
Heh, your poor narrator, I hope he finds a way out of those vines. The jauntiness of your poem is quite upbeat despite the predicament!

The comedown
So I heard you got high, Jack,
A bit higher than you really need.
You know that velocity is terminal?
When your coming down at that speed.

Greg - yeah, it sounds like it was a hard fought game. I just wish I'd never been aware that they were up 3-0 in the first, as it did get my hopes rather high for a game 7.

Oh, the photography was excellent. The main feature was a series of super close up shots of the sharpening stone he uses on his kitchen knives. Fascinating stuff, I totally would have bought a print if I'd had any money.

But yes, I was also attending to see how it was done, should I ever go that route.

Love the rhythm and flow of your poem. It's poetically conversational.
