The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: the breach.

So. Hot.

Anyway. Our raspberries are coming to an end (for now) and our blackberries are just starting, so it wasn't much of a harvest this morning. That meant I had time to get all of our garlic out of the garden and onto Kat's parents porch to begin their curing process.

Also, because our cooler conked out this week, we don't have a lot of storage space. We're using the extra fridge in Kat's parents house, along with our own extra fridge in our basement, for now. But that's not much to work with and the garden is overflowing with broccoli and cabbage at the moment.

And that means I get to wake up extra early tomorrow morning in order to harvest broccoli and cabbage before we head off to the market.

And that means... I should get some sleep.

Mine:

They circled the building with the patience of those who knew they would find a way in, eventually. Each window and door was inspected carefully and tested for any sign of weakness. I watched them from within and I made ready, for I knew they would find entry one way or another.

I could see the dynamite sticking out of their backpacks, after all.

Losing the cooler doesn't sound so good; is it a repair-it-yourself job or does it need a professional? I hope it's cheap, either way!
Good look with the brassica harvest, I hope it's a good one and that it's cooler when you're doing it!
Hmm, I don't think I was expecting the dynamite, but otherwise the imagery here is strong. This has a feel of being in your 'standard world' in a way; it's got the same tone to it as similar pieces and I think of them all being covered by the same narrator.

The breach
"Once more unto the breach, dear friends," said Lord Winter, his grey eyes sparkling with enthusiasm, "Once–"
"How about you go first, you toff!" yelled a voice from near the back of assembled troops. Lord Winter's eyes turned as bleak as midwinter ice and he raised his pistol and shot the speaker.
He looked around the room, the smoking pistol heavy in his hand, and said, "Any more suggestions, men?"

Greg - we've had a repairman in and doesn't seem like the issue can be fixed. A replacement part would be the cheapest option but they're having trouble locating what they need. So it remains unusable and we're finding ways to manage for now. At the very, very latest, we're going to need a proper cold storage space before strawberries come back around next year.

Huh, that's an interesting observation about my standard world. I wonder if there's a way to pull them all together...

Hah, that seems well handled. Can't have talk back like that going on!
