The exercise:

Write two haiku about: the deserter(s).

Max was up and at 'em bright and early this morning. Kat asked me what time it was and when I said six she figured she might as well get up since she'd set her alarm for 6:15 to get an early start on the picking. About five minutes later I heard:

"It's not six - it's five!"

What can I say? My vision isn't fantastic when I wake up 3.5 hours after I fall asleep. Plus, you know, 5 and 6 are practically the same number anyway. Just look at them!

Regardless, there was no going back to bed at that point. So our harvest for local orders began shortly after 6 and was done by 11. Not what we'd planned, but it worked out.

Mine:

They all say I ran
away, but I say I will
fight another day

*     *     *

Little Bo Peep has
lost her sheep... or have they all
just deserted her?

  1. Heh, I'd be wary about asking Kat the time for the next few days now :) At this time of year I guess you don't even get it still being dark outside at 5 to give you a clue that you might have read the time wrong! Still, with everything harvested and most of the day still to go it must have been a little more relaxed in the afternoon!
I think I like your second haiku better today, but I may be imagining a sheep conspiracy to run off and lure Bo Peep over a cliff ;-)

    Deserter
    Rain falls endlessly,
    Undoing memories. I'm
    Never going back.

  2. Greg - good point. Though she's generally too nice to pull something like that :P

Nope, it gets bright so early that the brightness level outside is utterly no use in the morning. Ah well, that will change soon enough.

I particularly like your first haiku this week, it's got a lot of great atmosphere in those three lines. Also: if it gets too bad in the office you're welcome to come farm with us any time :)
