The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: the glitch.

I'm not terribly surprised that the Jays had a letdown after the dramatic events of their victory over Texas on Wednesday. It came in the form of a 5-0 loss in the opening of their best of seven series against Kansas City. Not ideal, but plenty of time and opportunity to right the ship once again.

Speaking of ships, Kat and I watched Pirate Radio this evening. That was a whole lot of fun. Consider it recommended if you've not yet watched it.

Mine:

"You really shouldn't have left submitting your online application to the last minute."

"More like last second... but you know I work best under pressure."

"More like extreme press... uh oh."

"... please, please tell me that the power did not just go out."

You see it as a let-down, they see it as needing to lose the first three games in order to build dramatic tension for the last four, with the last being won despite a series of poor umpiring decisions and the team's star player being hospitalised for part of the match after a snake-bite obtained while he was rescuing a homeless child (who is secretly the child of a mega-CEO who could buy the team with his pocket change) from a snake-handling church. He discharges himself from hospital, gets to the game via a comic series of vehicles including an ambulance, a fire-truck and the short bus and wins the game in the dying seconds.
Derivative and pandering to the masses I call it :-P
Heh, I love your last line today. Perfect come-uppance for your 'I work better under pressure' dude!

The glitch
"Captain 'Rocky' Coves's treasure map," said Captain Sandy Bottoms, turning on the holo-map. A ghostly image of a turkey-shaped island appeared in the air above the map, a little flashing red spot marking where the treasure was buried. Seconds later the map fizzed and sparked and the image disappeared to the groans of his pirate crew. Sandy picked the map up and banged it hopefully on the table a few times, wishing all the while that people still used paper.

Greg - I'm not sure which story I prefer more - the one you wove about the baseball series or the one you wrote on the actual prompt.

No, that's a lie. Whenever Sandy Bottoms is involved in a story I have no choice but to prefer that one :) Though I am left intrigued by this Captain Rocky Coves...
