The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about something (or someone) that is: dull.

Because this morning I drove past Tom Dull Road on my way to picking up a couple packages that Kat had ordered and it caught my attention. I just kept thinking, "Man, talk about losing the last name lottery."

Anyway. Speaking of losing, the Blue Jays are now down 2-0 after losing in extra innings today. Winning three in a row isn't out of the question by any means, but maybe lets just start with winning the next one.

It's Thanksgiving weekend here, which means Kat's aunt and uncle have arrived from Calgary for their yearly visit. We went up for dinner this evening and we'll be back up there for turkey dinner tomorrow night.

I am very much looking forward to not attending the farmers market tomorrow.

Mine:

"I'm sorry my love, I just can't do it."

"It's... it's my last name, isn't it?"

"Oh sweetie, you know I can't take your last name... and hyphenating would be just... you know..."

"What would be so terrible about being called Mrs. Dull-Bottoms?"

Happy Thanksgiving! It's a little hard to believe that we're into the last quarter of the year already, but it is nice to be getting properly autumnal weather at last :) And enjoy not having to get up and drive into town to sell things!
Heh, I tihnk there might be worse things to be called that Mrs. Dull-Bottoms, but I can see her point. Though I think it's just an excuse personally, since over here you can change your surname to be anything you please when you get married :)

Dull
"This is the dull ward," said the nurse, smiling pleasantly, "endowed, naturally, by Inquisitor Tom Dull."
"How lovely," said one mother, peering through the windows. "For a moment there I thought you were going to tell us that you only kept dull patients in here, perhaps those the doctors found too boring to treat!"
As everyone laughed the nurse said, "We do!"

[You may be interested in nominative determinism... there's probably a prompt in there somewhere!]

Greg - yeah, I was struggling to come up with something worse than Dull-Bottoms. Obviously I wasn't able to manage it. But you're probably right, it does just sound like an excuse...

Hah, I bet most hospitals would have that sort of ward if they thought they could get away with it!

Also: hmm, that does seem like it should be able to inspire a prompt.
