The exercise:

Write two haiku about: the lifeguard.

Had a brief visit with a high school friend who was passing through Osoyoos today. Wonderful to see her and her daughter (who is about a year older than Max) again, and it's always a treat to share our produce (in this case, blackberries, apricots, and peaches) with an old friend.

One more day until my weekend.

During which there will be much hiding in the shade.

Mine:

I watch people swim
and, sometimes, drown - I'm not a
very good lifeguard

*     *     *

I get bored some days.
That's when I like to yell 'Shark!'
and watch them scatter...

Enjoy your time in the shade! And it's nice to hear about these people semi-from-your-past who come by and remind you of old times and all seem to be moving in the same direction as you.
I'm in Kiev now, hence the relative silence of the last couple of days, started the new job and finding my feet. It's been tiring, but I think it's because there's a new country, new culture, and new language all piled up into one block, plus starting on trying to get one of my ex-team over here with me. The country is nice though, and cheap, and the weather is cooler than Malta but not cold, so it's a pretty good start :)
I like your first haiku slightly better today, though it's a very tough call between them both. But the admission at the end makes it the winner for me.
I see that tomorrow you'll have been writing for 3,333 consecutive days! That's a nice number :)

The lifeguard
To protect you best
I keep you from the water --
Can't drown on dry land!

To whom it concerns,
After thought, I quit. I still
Can't swim, and I'm scared.

Greg - I'm happy to hear that Kiev is off to a good start for you! And I can imagine that there's a lot to get used to in a situation like that. I'm sure you'll be up to the challenge though :)

Hah, love the idea behind your first one this week. I can just picture your lifeguard trying to keep everyone out of the water.
