The exercise:

Write two haiku about: beaches.

I've actually used this as a haiku prompt before, but that was more than six years ago so... here we go again!

We spent a good chunk of the morning at Cottonwood Beach with three of Max's playschool buddies and their families. Was a lot of fun and we're hoping to keep meeting up every week throughout the summer.

Kat took Max for another beach play date in the afternoon while I stayed home with Miles. Sounds like the eldest had a grand time while me and the youngest kept ourselves generally entertained.

He is teething (again? still?) though, so there were a few rough patches.

Getting so stupid drunk when we're finally done with teething.

Mine:

Sand. Millions of grains.
And at least half of them are
in my bikini.

Pasty white skin hides
beneath umbrellas and hats
and long sleeve shirts and...

Pretty sure that it should be teething still unless he's a shark. In which case you're probably going to need move closer to the beach ;-) It sounds like Max is having a great time though, which must be helping reduce the stress of child-rearing.
I like your first haiku better this week, but that's because I have that delicate white skin you're referring to in your second. I don't tan, I just burn. But it's good camouflage in the snow and winter, so it has benefits.

Beaches
Sands strewn with tourists:
He calls them "Feelthy Beaches"
Of course he hates them.

Rising tides; tourists
Empty the sands in thousands.
Solitude is back.

Greg - ah, no wonder you're so looking forward to Kiev... :)

'Feelthy Beaches' makes me far too happy. I think this shall be stuck in my head the next time I go to walk the beaches at work.
