The exercise:

Write about: the edge of glory.

I'm scheduling Empires for Thursday, so that should force me to add to May's entry before then.

Should.

  1. Looking forward to seeing your entry for Empires! Morganna's given you a lot to work with so I'm expecting great things from you :)
Tooth update: I've been a bit spacy over the weekend; I think it's the fact that it's actually a minor surgery rather than the painkillers, but I'm pretty much back to normal now. Just with a large gap in my teeth on the lower right side.
Isn't... isn't Edge of Glory a... Lady Gaga song? o_O

Ok, we're revisiting this for today's prompt. It wasn't what I was originally thinking of continuing, but when the site search threw it up it seemed like its time had come.

    Edge of Glory
Gaunt figures gather in the street,
    Whistling dirges and throwing meat,
    Shuffling back from rapacious beaks
As the Byakhee land, evil and sleek.
    Leathery wings furl and unfurl,
    Reptilian tongues stretch and uncurl,
Those who show fear, who hide and who cower
Are seized by the tongues and swiftly devoured.

They're merciless guardians for an uncaring Lord,
Who strides the Abyss and maintains an Accord,
Wherein people are only subjected to Fate
And prayers sent to Gods are always too late.
And I must confront Lord Nodens, who's hoary,
With only my luck. It's the edge of glory,
But I've hoarded for years and between luck and pride
I hope I can say I'm one who won't die.

  2. Climbing high above the
    Overarching flaming horizon
    Rounding the turn
    Opening the fuel lines
Now! Dive into the sun joining the
    Aubade in glory.

  3. Greg - I can't believe you caught the Lady Gaga reference on the very first day :(

I'm glad you chose to continue this, as it allowed me to reread the opening piece and because you did such an awesome job of it this go around.

Morganna - wow, that's a brilliant acrostic. Very impressed!
