The exercise:

Write two haiku about something that is: grand.

  1. I haven't actually got a Scrabble board set up -- I'm just writing the words out on squared paper as I go. And that's because I was worried that you were keeping track of the words ready to tell me when I did something impossible -- since this game is going word by word I can't claim that you don't know what the rest of the board looks like!
Don't worry, there are other things than the hippos I can kill off :)

    Grand
    Snow falls on old wood,
Rats seek ways inside the house,
    For them: all is grand.

    The North wind blows hard,
Grand plans are set aside now.
    The rats must be faced.

[Kind of continuing on from the last haikus, just a touch]

  2. Greg: I love your take on his, the complete opposite of how most people would go (yet somehow still remaining true to the prompt).

So I just got back from Edinburgh where my boyfriend proposed. So of course this prompt made me thing of a certain piece of jewelry I can't stop staring at. I apologize in advance for the sappiness.

    The center stone shines,
    Shimmering in every beam
    Of the golden sun.

    The turns of metal
    Mimic the vines around us.
    I love him so much.

  3. Greg - yes, I'm quite certain you'll find something or someone to kill off.

I appreciate the connections to last week's haiku :)

    Ivy - woo! Congratulations :D

And these are a lovely tribute to a very special certain piece of jewelry and the man who is responsible for it being on your finger :)
