The exercise:

Write two haiku about: a light in the darkness.

  1. What kind of light are you thinking of here? Christmas lights sparkling in the window of a nearby house on a dark, snowy night? Warm, soft light spilling from the door as the homeowner looks out to see who is struggling outside in the cold? The little red light from the laser sight of the homeowner's rifle? The flashing blue and red lights of the ambulance that the coroner arrived in?

    :)

    A light in the darkness
    Sometimes it's better
To curse the darkness than light
    A candle. Monsters

    In hiding await
New light to guide them to you
    Safely. Then they feast.

  2. When the hopeless thoughts
Close in, she comes to comfort,
    Shining through the dark.

    A light gleams ahead
The end of the tunnel comes
    Or is it a dragon?

    ===========
Couldn't make the last line come out right in 5 syllables.

  3. Greg - I think I was thinking of a spark of hope in dark times. But I like your suggestions just as well :)

Nicely done with the acrostic. These two are delightfully creepy.

Morganna - or be there dragons? Just a thought.

I really like your first one this week.
