Give and take Without any signal or conscious agreement, all eyes fell on Claire's partner, who was looking at the board as though trying to puzzle out the rules from watching the others play. He looked at each of them in turn, smiled, and shuffled the tiles on his rack. "I shall change all my tiles," he said, "a bit of give and take never hurts, does it?" As the tiles clattered in the bag, and Theresa held it high enough to be sure he wasn't cheating, she wondered what on earth Claire could be up to.
