The exercise:

Write two haiku about: hand-me-downs.

  1. Now if this connects with yesterday's prompt, it's clear that someone with a blind-spot has provided one of the boys with a hand-me down that has turned out to be somewhat inappropriate... you've been gifted a second-hand snake, perhaps? (I lost track of Mr. Wriggles, I guess he never made the trip to the new house with you. So let's call this one Ms. Slithery :) )

    Hand-me-downs
    All your hand-me-downs
    Are pick-me-ups of spring joy
    And cheerful colours!

    Um, this hand-me-down,
    is a leg-me-down, plus foot.
    Where did you get it??

  2. Perfectly good clothes
    Outgrown before they're outworn
    On to the next child.

    Sometimes, families
    Pass down trauma, fear, grief
    Instead of just clothes.

  3. Greg - no. Just... no.

Hah, that second haiku would be rather concerning, wouldn't it?

Morganna - really like the middle line of your first haiku. And your second haiku is, unfortunately, very true - it's something Kat deals with in her counselling work quite a bit.
