The exercise:

Write about: spinning.

2 comments:

  1. Spinning
Her hands dart like silver fish
    In water deep and charcoal-dark,
    Keeping plates in motion,
    Spinning on slender poles
    In both directions.

    She ignores the chalky shriek
    Of china plates wearing away
As they spin, spin, spin throughout the day
And each plate can never stop,
Because she doesn't know what she'd do if that happened.

    And when the plates multiply
To the point where she thinks she might die,
She spins plates on top of plates
And the shrieking conceals her screaming
And the smoke of fusing china makes her cry.

  2. Greg - this is quite fantastic. I think the final stanza is my favorite but obviously the whole dang thing is great.
