The exercise:

T'was a busy Sunday and it's getting late. But the day cannot end without some writing, so here's the prompt: nightfall.

Actually, that reminds me. If you folk like the funny, and I reckon you do or you wouldn't put up with my nonsense, you owe it to yourself to check out The Legend of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert. It's one of the few books I've reread multiple times.

Anywho - on with the show! Or something.

Mine:

The shadows lengthen and deepen,
The night sky's starry eyes open;
Fire casts light and dark equally -
Come join our midnight jubilee.

We will dance until morning comes,
We won't stop when our feet go numb;
We draw strength from the moon's soft call -
We come alive when true night falls.

  1. Your poetry is always upbeat! It's quite invigorating :)

    Nightfall

    Come the evening, come the dusk,
    Shadows gather as night falls,
    People huddle in wooden huts,
    Listening to the fearsome calls,
    Of animals that roam outside,
    And those that prey on them,
    People long for morning's light,
    And safety once again.

  2. I don't do poetry, sorry....but:

    Nightfall...

    As the night was slowly falling, she sat on the hill, under the big oak tree thinking. What would her life had been like if she had never left this place? Would she be the woman she was today? Would she be happier? So many questions but so few answers. Maybe it would be best, to leave all the questions, forget this place and leave again, but then she thought of his eyes. The way those deep brown eyes seemed to see straight through her, and she knew that here she would need to remain, at least until the questions were answered.

  3. Greg - thanks... I think. I reckon this is the first time I've ever been unsure if you're being serious or not.

    I really like the first four lines of your poem, the first one in particular.

    TAMmommy - oh, there's no requirement to write poetry here! Er, aside from four line poem Saturday... anyway.

    I just tend to write poems as they keep the posts relatively short. And I also am prone to getting carried away with prose :)

    I quite like your piece - you managed to convey a lot in a fairly small space. I like the air of mystery about it :)

    Thanks for dropping by and joining in!
