The exercise:

Your Christmas Eve writing prompt: it's the most wonderful time of the year.

Mine:

Rudolph is stretching out his legs,
Elves are adding the final pegs,
Santa is dusting off his sled,
And kids can hardly stay in bed.

For one night every year,
Both young and old are filled with cheer;
All differences are set aside,
And peace and love gently collide.

I give thanks for this joyous night,
And though it is a warming sight -
I simply cannot help but wish
Every night was just like this.

  1. How was Christmas Eve up in Osoyoos then? Snowy and wonderful? We spent Christmas Eve eating and talking and laughing -- just old-fashioned family fun.

That's a sweet poem, heartfelt I dare say. And well done on getting the automatic posting to work!

It's the most wonderful time of the year

    There's a star shining bright
    In the heavens tonight,
    Making people wonder if something
Might be happening, like a King
    Being born in a manger
    Putting us all in danger
Of having to be happy from now on.

    But astronomers know
That the star is just the glow
    Of million year old light
    That travelled through eternal night
To be here in our sky.
But if that can make us wonder why
We're not nicer to each other,
The let each man embrace his brother
And celebrate cosmic accident without fear.

It's the most wonderful time of year.

  2. Ah, no snow on the ground in Osoyoos, but we managed to go find some in the mountains on the 26th :)

Christmas Eve was spent doing last minute wrapping and listening to carols and chatting with the extended family, after a very tasty dinner. Very pleasant :)

Loved the tone of your poem, and a nice little ending to it too.
