The exercise:

The topic for your four lines of prose this week is: the best medicine.

Looking over how long my last couple of posts have been, I can tell I haven't been writing much stuff on Protagonize recently. I hope to rectify that this weekend.

Mine:

Good afternoon everyone, and thank you for making time in your busy schedules to join us.

We here at Jester Laboratories have some very exciting news to share with you today. What you are about to see is the culmination of twenty years of lab testing, field research, divorces, great leaps forward, and soul destroying setbacks.

But we are all in agreement that it was worth every sleepless night to reach this moment when we are finally able to say: Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present to you… Laughter in a BottleTM .

  1. I wouldn't mind some of that Laughter in a Bottle!

    Here's my offering for today:

Curled up in a big comfy chair with a hot cup of tea sitting on a side table.
Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice sits open on my lap.
My eyes see words but my mind takes me into a world of refinement, beauty, and simpler times.
The very best medicine for a stressful life.

  2. Hey Marc:
Check out my blog--I put a link to today's four line prose. I was so inspired by your "Laughter in a Bottle" that I created a photo for you!

  3. Heh, I've been neglecting Protagonize too and need to try to get back to it this weekend. If nothing else, I think it's my turn in "How the Best was won."

Laughter in a bottle™ sounds like a wonderful idea, and you could make a fortune selling it to Sit-com producers. Though looking at what it cost to produce it, perhaps it's not as funny as it sounds....

    The best medicine

Evil Mary Poppins looked at the three children lined up before her, noting their dishevelled clothes, muddy shoes and cuts and scrapes.
"They say that laughter is the best medicine," she said, her words slow and considered, "but personally I've always found arsenic to be much better medicine." A large spoon and an odious green bottle appeared in her hands as though out of nowhere.
    "Now, open wide!"

  4. Salynne - that sounds lovely, and it's great to see you here again :)

And I'll definitely have to check out this picture!

Greg - yes, I do believe it is your turn. Also, in case you haven't noticed yet, sign-ups for the Spring poetry tournament have started.

Evil Mary Poppins! Wherever did that come from? :)
