The exercise:

It's Two Haiku Tuesday once again. This week your topic is: ode to joy.

There's a part of me that has always wanted to learn how to play piano. This weekend Kat decided to teach me on the piano in her parents home. The first thing she taught me? Yup, Ode to joy. The one handed version, anyway.

I can proudly say that I mastered those five notes and that it's only a matter of time before I'm playing to sold out concert halls.

Mine:

Five piano keys,
Manipulated just so,
Take me far away.

*     *     *

Oh my dearest Joy,
No one can question that your
Pancakes are divine.

  1. Yay for pianistic enlightenment!! It may be the one-handed version, but any version of Ode to Joy is better than the standard limits of Chopsticks and/or Heart'n'Soul.

I'm likin' both hiakus today, I've to say. The pianoness of the first just makes me happy, and the pancakes of the second instantly draws to mind my grandparents' pancakes. Best. Zarkin. Pancakes. On. The planet.

    Just sayin'...

    "Vhat?!" Beethoven cries.
    Completely deaf by the Ninth
    with its choral Op.

    Yet, a masterpiece
    bursting passion, full-out soul
    The first Romantic.

    Ah, Beethoven... ^^

  2. I'm glad everyone liked the mythology-inspiration of yesterday's poem! Sadly it's much harder to squeeze the ancient Greeks into a haiku (don't think I won't try one day though).

Ode to joy sounds like a good start for your piano learning! The easy part is pressing the keys though, the difficult bit is learning when to press them....

I like your first haiku slightly more this morning, but the pancakes sound delicious!

@g2: your second haiku is definitely my favourite there.

    Ode to joy

    Ode to joy: ODE, ODD,
ADD, AID, BID, BAD, BAY, JAY, JOY.
    Word ladders are fun.

    ------

    Marmoreal halls
    House voices that harmonize
    In the Ode to Joy

  3. @Greg Your first one made me laugh :D

@Marc The first song I learned on the piano was Chopsticks, but one of the first songs on my violin was Ode to Joy ;) Technically the first was "Twinkle, Twinkle"

@g2 Personally, I like the first haiku. And on a different note: Hiya, I'm Archi :D

    Ode to joyful sparks:
    Pluck and Pitz!icatto strings
    Pulse piano's heart.

    +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

    Scales in round tumblers
    Motor with ins and outs.
    Joyful ball of fur.

Gah! Keep humming the song and it's totally throwing off my counting :P

  4. g2 - I thought you might like this one :)

I think I like your first one best.

Greg - your first one is also win. And I shall try to have a prompt next Tuesday that will lead you down mythological lanes...

Archi - haha, yeah that tune is damn catchy.

I think I like your second best, but it's a close call.
