The exercise:

Your prompt: playing dress up.

I do believe I found my wedding outfit today. The store I was at didn't have the pants in the right size, or the shirt in the right color in my size, but they found another location that has both. So I'm dropping by tomorrow to try them on together and most likely buy them.

And, if I'm allowed to say so, I reckon I'm going to look damn fine on my wedding day.

Mine:

They had all agreed to wear suits,
Those three men who were in cahoots.
Sadly they failed to make it clear
What exactly that meant, I fear.

Harry arrived in diving gear;
Ricky came disguised as a deer;
And Tim, standing so thin and tall,
Turned up wearing nothing at all.

None of them had a thing to say,
So they robbed the bank anyway.

  1. Behave myself? How, exactly? :-P

After your first two lines, I was starting to think that perhaps you'd decided to go to your wedding dressed as a clown and I was wondering how Kat was going to take that -- I suspect she'd be unimpressed and would sit you down to reassess your decision! However, it got better, and I'm hoping that we'll get to see you all dressed up in this finery sometime soon!

Btw, regarding alternatives for wife, my other quarter suggests baby-momma. I'm inclined to agree.

Great little poem, the second and third verses both deliver well.

    Playing dress up

Athena sat quietly by the fire,
Stirring it from time to time
With a lazy finger, smoke rising
And the flame never daring to burn her flesh.
    Her silence was instructive,
    She reminded me, wordlessly,
That she had once been Mentor,
Back when she was still playing dress up.
Finally she raised her head from the hearth
And looked at me, bright eyes in a smoky face.
A single, silver tear ran through the soot
And I wished that she could find forgiveness for me.
Immortality: a curse that lasts forever,
No matter how we might dress this up,
The betrayal would be a rift between us
In a century's time and then longer still.
The tear traced the curve of her cheekbone
And fell from her face to the fire.
And as the fire was extinguished,
    So was our friendship.

  2. From the little girl, age 8, playing dress up
I always leave a finger free
I never put a ring on it
The same one, meant for love, they say,
I want it for my own true love.

  3. Marc- Very funny. I especially feel for the man in his birthday suit.
Greg- What an incredible picture! Just beautiful.
Morganna- So sweet. Reminds me of my daughter and her instance that only boys can give her rings.

And then there is mine. I would be the problem that occurs when you allow people to write as much as they wish (or have time for). Mine doesn't fit. in the 4,096 characters allowed.

  4. Greg - I actually laughed out loud when I read baby-momma. I'll have to try it out!

Your poem made me glad you're not in the tournament this time around. That was great.

    Morganna - that's very cute, I liked that :)

Heather - glad you liked it :)

And... I have to be honest here. I was not aware there was a character limit, haha.

Well done, I shall have to check that out momentarily :)
