The exercise:

The Two Haiku Tuesday topic this week: dance with the devil.

I'm still having fun putting together a playlist for the reception. I'm currently rediscovering my love of Irish music :)

Mine:

This dance floor of coal?
The orchestra of the damned?
This ain't romantic.

He steps on my toes,
He burns my hair with his breath...
Save me from this hell!

  1. Heh, you remind me of Ambrose Bierce's definition of dancing: the art of pulling your feet away faster than your partner can step on them. I've always thought he had a point....

I like your first haiku better, but your second one is very atmospheric.

And responding to your comment from yesterday, I'm actually a little surprised that you're not finding other sources of inspiration already, I always thought that these prompts came quite easily to you. Well, from my hotel window I can see over the top of Montreal Cathedral (I'm on the 17th floor), so perhaps tomorrow's prompt might be "Building a cathedral"?

    Dance with the Devil

    He's got better moves,
He better dressed, and so hot,
    He's the Devil, kid!

    ---------

    He made her famous,
    Everyone knows her name. Now,
    He takes every dance

  2. I don't have anything to share as far as haikus go (I took a three hour test in Spanish, go easy on me), but I saw you mention you might be having prompt issues? If I may offer suggestions...

~ "more stories than could fill Lake Okeechobee"
    ~ "The Shadow knows"
    ~ a lethal umbrella
    ~ tests

Perhaps we might be due for another continuation or random song prompt as well.

  3. Greg - hah, I quite like that definition :)

And inspiration has good days and bad days. I'll have to make use of your suggestion though, as I have ideas swirling in my head already.

    Your second haiku is fantastic.

g2 - much appreciated, I suspect I'll be making use of those in the near future. Thanks!
