The exercise:
Four lines of prose about: the recipe.
Yesterday Greg asked what the 'purple thing' next to the patty pan squash was in the picture. Well, he's in luck, because I also took a picture of... the eggplant:
This also ties in nicely to today's prompt, as I'm currently scouring the net for a relatively simple recipe for baba ganoush, since a lot of people that come by our market stand aren't sure what to do with eggplant. I'm planning on printing out a few copies to give people tomorrow morning.
Although, really, the round variety we grow could just as well be used as a pretty cool centerpiece...
Mine:
"Are you absolutely certain about this?"
"Of course!"
"You're sure it's not a typo?"
"It'll never work, never! Given the compounds present, the pressure, their reaction tendencies, none of these things should ever be in contact with one another, let alone mixed and combined with water!"
ReplyDelete"Y'mean like this?"
"Don't-!"

I was gonna put some kind of explosive onomonopia, but that would've gone over the four lines.
Geez, 'Loo, while I read yours I kind of got shivers... and I don't think it was because of the cool summer night we're having tonight...
on a lighter note, I can't say I've ever seen round eggplant before. Thank you for broadening my eggplant horizons. ^^
Marc- I'll pass on dinner. Thank you all the same!
ReplyDeleteG2- At least he was able to finish is thought!
After asking for an early prompt (and given it), I couldn't get to it until late and then felt rushed. My apologies.
-------
My husband and I have been married for nine years 359 days. I'd tell you the recipe, but its not a set thing; it changes with us as needed. Only the ingredients stay the same: kindness, respect, love, and understanding with sprinklings of compassion and humor. An occasional dash of anger or disappointment helps ensure we don't take one another for granted.
@g2: I've never seen a round aubergine before either! No wonder I didn't recognise it. I wish I knew what your characters were mixing together though :)
ReplyDelete@Heather: There's often a undertone of romance in your writing here, sometimes very subtle. I really liked the calmness and elegant beauty of your piece today.
@Marc: The round aubergines are fantastic, and I think the idea of giving out little recipes to encourage people to use it is a really good one too! I hope the market goes well today :)
The recipe
"What're you making for the company pot-luck?"
"Origami pie," I gasped dragging another industrial sized bag of sugar up to the counter.
"Let's see: two sheets of colourful paper, 70 kilos of sugar, milk to taste, everything that falls from a well-shaken cinnamon tree...."
"The recipe's a family heirloom," I gasped, leaning on the counter and turning blue, "I used to be forced to eat it every Easter."
g2 - ha, I think it works perfectly fine without the explodey noises :)
ReplyDeleteAnd broadening eggplant horizons is kind of what I do :D
Heather - no apologies allowed! As long as you find the time to write, who am I to complain? :)
That sounds like an excellent dish, regardless of how the ingredients are mixed. Early congrats on your 10th anniversary :)
Greg - well I did hand out a few copies of the recipe today, though a lot more people just came up and bought them outright. I'm hoping to find time to do up some recipe cards for other veggies that get a lot of looks but not a lot of buys.
Origami pie sounds delightful - I don't know how anything could go wrong with that amount of sugar! Also... cinnamon makes everything better.
Everything.
Yes, even that.
