The exercise:

A four line poem about: fading.

Kat was taking a class this morning, so I went up to Penticton to do the market with her mom as my assistant. It was weird not having her there but it worked out just fine. Business was steady and I'd say it was a good market for mid-October.

It's quite possible we'll get a frost tonight, so we picked as much of the peppers, squash, and eggplant as we could this afternoon. I guess we'll see in the morning how much survived the night.

Mine:

There's a frost coming,
I feel it in my bones.
It won't be long now
Till summer's long gone.

  1. Good luck with the frosts tonight then! It seems a little odd actually, hearing about frosts when at the start of the week you were commenting on lovely it was!

    Hah, great little poem!

    Fading

As the world ends, I find myself on the ocean's shore,
Soaked with salt spray from the surf in which I'm wading,
The low red sun has cast everything in shades on blood,
And though it's peaceful, I'm glad its light is fading.

  2. marc, perfect ode to the fast dying warm weather (actually methinks it's dead and buried already).

greg, it's true, the beginning of the week was beautiful even here in ontario. this weekend is perfect with clear blue skies and the sun shining brightly, but the wind is - how can i put it mildly? - a bitch! brrrrrr! and gamboge yesterday, red today. nice mental picture it formed it my head, your poem.

    fading -

i plant a kiss on your lips and you smile
your sparkling eyes full of starry thoughts
but i know it's all a lie and a farce
my love is fading, and it's fading fast.

  3. Marc – Hopefully that list of yours can survive through the frost. “I feel it in my bones” – that’s a wonderful line! :)

Greg – Nice imagery and I like the ending :)

Summerfield – That’s really intense and I can feel it.

    Mine:

    The light is fading,
    The age is fading,
    The time is fading,
    But my love will never.

  4. Greg - the only reason I know it's mid-October are the mornings and the nights. The days are still beautiful, if a little chilly.

We seemed to avoid the worst of the damage last night, but it's supposed to hover around zero again tonight so we'll see.

That's a fantastic four line poem. Top marks, and all that good stuff :)

Summerfield - great work with your poem. A moment perfectly captured.

Zhongming - great final line after a really good setup. Well done :)
