The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: sacrifices.

Sleepy and want to go to bed, so good night.

Mine:

For the sake of sleep
I will sacrifice;
This little poem
Just ain't gonna rhyme.

  1. Sacrifices

    During the war our family got hungry. Living in an occupied country meant that food shortages were commonplace, as the indigenous population sacrificed their supply for those who occupied, those with the guns.
    When food came, it came in small amounts, with uncertain continuance.
    My brother was barely older than a toddler at the time when my parents sacrificed much of their portions to feed him. He, in kind, modelled their stance, preferring to sacrifice his portion for his baby sister who’d barely had enough to eat at all in her first year of life.
    War is a terrible thing. It takes food from the mouths of innocent children who are mere pawns in the big boys’ game of life. Innocence is sacrificed, along with lives, just to appease those who hold the strings; such a waste can never be justified; such sacrifices should never be necessary.

  2. You must be tired! I hope it's been a long day for a good reason :)

    Sacrifices
    The cold chill of realisation
    Of all the sacrifices made so far;
    The hot burden of expectations
    That this child will stop the war.

  3. With quill and ink in hand
    For sleepless hours I write
    Although it was unplanned
    The plot has come to light.

  4. No home,
    No money,
    No family,
    But I breath, I feel, I live.

  5. Writebite - perfectly expressed.

    Greg - we went out for dinner at a friend's place and got back later than we were expecting, but it was definitely a good time.

    Hmm, there's a story waiting to be told within those four lines. I am intrigued.

    Krystin - love it!

    Iron Bess - kind of makes it all worth it, doesn't it?
