The exercise:
Write two haiku about: the answer.
Another local order day over and done with, four more to go until the end of our inaugural box program season. I'm a little tired of it now, but I'm sure I'll miss it once it's finished for the year.
It's pretty smoky out there right now, with the various forest fires going on in the area. Seems like the worst of it is coming from the south, so hopefully they get things under control down in Washington State pretty quickly.
Mine:
He asks the question,
certain he knows her response -
of course she says no.

Multiple choice quiz:
only one right answer and
it hides in plain sight.
@Marc - for your sake I hope those fires do get under control and don't end up affecting you. still wishing I was close enough to participate in your box program. But I hear they have them out here, I just got to find one near me.
ReplyDeleteToday my response to the prompt comes from Vervell and the Gods of Videra. It may or may not be a spoiler, though perhaps more a teaser... anyway I hope you can at least figure out the question. :}
The Answer
It was Chester first
Then York went to clean his mess
But failed to save face
Then Jason was sent
Hoping he might do better
But he nearly died
But prayers they then heard
The first victim, tentative
Answer provided
T’would not be a man
Who could bring him to justice
And tear his house down
@Cathryn: I don't think you should worry about the distance, just sign up for the box program and let Marc worry about how to deliver it!
ReplyDeleteYour first verse threw me completely, as Chester and York are both cities in the North of England and that's how they resonate with me. I enjoyed it though!
@Marc: I read somewhere recently that the biggest cause of forest fires in the last couple of decades is Smokey the Bear, because the drive to prevent forest fires causes a much bigger build up of what's essentially tinder. So... set fire to some stuff! (Maybe not....)
I think I like your second haiku better today, if only because it's so, so true.
The answer
The Oracle will
answer all your questions, but:
she speaks in riddles.

The answer echoes
Round and round my empty head
I don't understand.
@Greg - York and Chester are two of the rivers that flow into the Chesapeak Bay.. We had to use all ten (ish) names as part of the Maryland NaNo Challenge in 2011. I used those two and James for character names and the rest (like the Patomac) got split into syllables to make a riddled warning for the 'Good General' *grins*
ReplyDeleteAs to your suggestion... - What do you think Marc? Next day air wouldn't be that expensive... *giggles*
Cathryn - thanks; the smoke seems to not be getting any worse at least.
ReplyDeleteLove the tie in to your story. You're getting me hooked back into it, one prompt at a time!
Greg - hey, if she wants to pay for delivery I'll be happy to send her produce! :P
Yeah, fire prevention seems to be doing a great job of building up a stockpile of stuff that burns real good.
Hah, love your second one :)
Cathryn - hey, like I said to Greg: pay for the delivery and I'm more than happy to provide :)
