The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: misconceptions.

No particular reason, other than the word popped into my head while I was trying to come up with a prompt. And since it was one of those rare times that I was immediately certain I hadn't used an idea already, I began writing.

There are certainly challenges in coming up with new prompts after more than four years of doing this.

We enjoyed our Saturday off today, filling it with sleep, warm drinks, and a spot of house work. Oh! And the sun very briefly made an appearance between the clouds, so I ran out into the fall-coloured orchard and snapped a few pictures.

Here's one:

Will share another tomorrow. Unless I forget. Which I'm prone to doing.

Mine:

He thinks he's being helpful,
But that's just not the case.
If he keeps interfering,
I'll punch him in the face.

  1. That's a great picture; when it's framed it'll really give this feeling of hiding behind the tree on the left and peering out at the vineyards. I rather like the way the rows between the plants act to draw the eye into the picture, while the nearest leaves almost feel like they're brushing your face.
Four years of prompts! Yeah, I can imagine that at times it must feel like the well of inspiration isn't as deep as it used to be, but I'm sure that'll all change soon :)
I completely understand the sentimement of your poem today.

    Misconceptions
I know that some I tell
Will say it cannot be believed,
But today I sing a song
    Of the children misconceived.

  2. Nice picture, I had to run out and snap one of the sun shining on yellow leaves as well. I love fall.

    Greg - harsh
    Marc - harsh

Both your poems seem at odds with your sentiments today. Misconceptions will do that to you.

He reads the blog she writes
How can she be so cruel?
She writes the blog he reads
    And comments on the fool.

  3. A little levity to lighten the mood (at least I think it's levity, but the way minds work around here, it may not be)

I thought this was the place
    I checked the directions twice
But the woman who answers the door is sure
    This is not the bordello.

  4. Greg - thanks! Personally, I quite like the contrast of the dark clouds in the background. Makes it all seem rather dramatic.

Hah, that's a neat take on the prompt, and one I certainly did not see coming!

Iron Bess - mmm, fall is one of my favorite times of year. When the weather cooperates it can be absolutely spectacular.

Love the... I don't know if parallels is the right word, but I suspect it's close enough for you to get what I'm aiming for.

Morganna - hah! I'd say that definitely fits in the levity category :D
