The exercise:

Write two haiku which have something to do with: biting.

This afternoon Max helped me plant our garlic crop for next year. Meanwhile Kat was cooking up a huge batch of pasta sauce, some of which we used with our pasta dinner this evening. Most of it went into the freezer though, for use during the winter months.

Speaking of which, it pretty much feels like winter out there right now. I think I'm going to have to start chopping wood for our fireplace pretty quick here...

Mine:

Blood fills my mouth and
drips from my lips; I will not
bite my tongue again

*     *     *

A jagged, broken
smile. His parents say that he
just loves to eat rocks

  1. Mmmm, pasta. It's October now and normally I'd be making chili con carne with regularity, but Malta's still a bit warm. I think I may have to ignore the weather and cook it anyway though :)
I think I like your second haiku better this time, though I've been there with biting my tongue hard enough to make it bleed.

    Biting

    Bland remarks thrown out
    In casual disdain for
    The truth bite like snakes

    Icy shock; the pain
    Never eases up, so we
    Grin -- and cry inside.

  2. Greg - screw the weather, cook what you want :)

Ah! It took me a moment to realize you'd returned to your acrostic haiku ways :)

Hard to pick between your two, but I think I favor the second slightly for its final line.
