The exercise:

Write two haiku about: leaving on a jet plane.

My parents left for a vacation in New Zealand this morning. Kat's parents left for a vacation in Europe this afternoon. Inspiration for a prompt? Yes, I do believe so.

Also, one might be able to choose the prompt as a description for the final pitch of this game.

Mostly successful trip to Penticton today. Got clothes for the kids and Kat (but nothing for me) and Halloween costumes for the kids. Got most of the groceries we were looking for and then headed for home.

Back at the bakery tomorrow morning for the first time in a week and a half. Might take some time to get back into the swing of things.

Mine:

Wheels up, we're in the
sky, leaving it all behind...
for a little while

*     *     *

Parting clouds like an
old friend parted the Red Sea,
I am, at last, free.

  1. If all your parents have left doesn't that mean that you'll be holding wild house parties and staying out all night until they get back? Both destinations sound good, though Europe is a little vague -- are they travelling to several countries as part of the trip?
Aw, I thought you were going to say that you got clothes for everyone else and just a Hallowe'en costume for you!
I think I like your second haiku better today for that touch about the old friend. There's a whole story hidden in those seventeen syllables!

    Leaving on a jet plane
    Destination: home
He's leaving on a jet plane
    The right one this time.

    ------
    Volcano explodes
    All air traffic is grounded
    ...looks like he's walking.

  2. Greg - yeah, pretty sure that's how it works.

Kat's parents went to Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Czechia, and Germany, I believe. The Croatia portion was to visit her mother's grandfather's birthplace.

They're back now and it sounds like it went well - busy, but well.

Ooh, tough to choose between yours again. Really liked the final line of your first one... but then I could say the same for your second. Tempted to call it a tie, but I think I'll go, just barely, with the first.
