The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: the coup.

So Max seems to be on the road to recovery, just as Miles hops on board the bus to Sickville. And, somehow, I'm still basically healthy. Quite sleep deprived, but not coughing or sniffling.

I feel like I should stick 'yet' at the end of that last sentence.

Oh, an update from Vancouver as well: my former coworker is out of ICU, his breathing is no longer labored, and the clot buster seems to have done its job. He's on blood thinners now and will hopefully be heading home soon.

I think there was something else I wanted to mention but I'm going to sleep now so never mind.

Mine:

They said Enough is enough
At long last,
So they struck violently and
They struck fast

  1. I seem to recall me and my siblings had similar issues: when one gets sick the others catch it in short order. I think you treat sleep as a luxury for the next five years :-P
I'm glad to hear about your ex-co-worker too. It sounds like Pestilence is leaving after all :)
Nice poem, with the lead up to the last line being clear, but still very nicely delivered. Good work!

    The coup
One day a ruler, with a realm of a million men,
Then came the coup, and relegation to a tower.
No more stress, no more worrying, even bliss -- and then
The coup was over and it was back to power.

  2. Greg - yeah, siblings are great at sharing (some things).

I love the story your poem tells. That third line is particularly striking. I wonder how well your ruler will deal with being back in power after a view of life without it?
