The exercise:
Write a four line poem about: a brand new day.
There are forest fires all over the place at the moment, prompting our province to declare a state of emergency. We're not currently under any imminent threat, but the valley certainly filled up with smoke this morning.
While it wasn't much fun to breathe in, the smoke seemed to keep the beaches and parks relatively quiet. Certainly the least stressful day I've had in a while at any rate.
Supposed to be a few more degrees cooler tomorrow, which would be appreciated.
Mine:
Stop for a moment
And breathe in the morning;
Hear your soul whisper
And heed its grim warning
I know you have these fires every year, so there's probably not too much to worry about, but I hope it's all contained and doesn't come close to you. I can see how the smoke might reduce tourism -- and it might cool the local weather down a little too, oddly enough. All in all though, I hope the fires die down quickly :)
ReplyDeleteAh, and your poem is definitely a reflection on those fires. I really like the last two lines!
A brand new day
They're cheap, and they're going fast:
They're brand new days, but they're not built to last.
Enjoy this free one, but to your sorrow,
You'll want another this time tomorrow.
Greg - lots of fires still burning, but we remain unthreatened by anything other than their smoke.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Great take on the prompt :) Not sure if I'm able to single out a favorite line, but 'they're not built to last' certainly stands out.
