The exercise:

Write about: winding down.

Sunday January 30th, 2022

The exercise:

Write about: a withering wind.

Went for our Sunday hike this afternoon, despite the nasty wind (which is still blowing). Worth it, obviously, but definitely cut things short.

We made up for it with tea and hot chocolate and family art time at the dinner table after we got home.

The exercise:

Write about: a whispering wind.

Miles is all the way better now, by the way. He was mostly in the clear over the weekend but he's back to full health again, I'm happy to report.

The exercise:

Write about: a gust of wind.

Yeah, it's a new month and that's how I'm welcoming it and I'm not sorry.

The exercise:

The prompt today is: a wicked wind.

It's really howling out there right now; it was too much effort to come up with anything else.

We've decided to make Sunday our one complete day off each week and today was the first of those. We had lunch at the beach after a nice, relaxed morning, and I wandered around the orchard taking pictures after dinner. Nothing worth sharing, but it was good practice.

Back to the garden tomorrow morning!

Mine:

This wind is playing tricks with me,
What it's saying just cannot be.
But it's so powerful up here...
Perhaps I'll just forget my fear.

Let me just spread my arms out wide,
To free the bird that lurks inside.
Now the wind shall lift me up high,
As I remember how to fly.

What is that ghastly, awful sound
I hear as I approach the ground?
Oh, I wish that I am dreaming,
For that racket is me, screaming.

The exercise:

It was some kind of windy today in Vancouver. I'm tempted to follow up yesterday's prompt with 'blown away'.

Ah, screw it - I'm not feeling very imaginative at the moment, so we're using it.

Mine:

Riding a bike uphill on weary legs is one thing,
Doing so straight into the wind is quite another;
Gasping for air while abandoned plastic bags take wing,
Wishing my progress could be like those soaring others.

I will not stop and walk, though my legs beg for respite -
I am far too stubborn to suffer such public shame;
Though every breath is one step closer to the light,
This bike, this hill, this wind, and this life I will tame.
