The exercise:
Write four lines of prose about: the candidates.
The deadline for local government nomination packages to be submitted was this afternoon for BC. Of the nine electoral areas in the regional district, we've got four returnees winning by acclimation and five elections to run (4 incumbents with challengers and 1 area with the incumbent choosing not to run again).
Should be an interesting next month. Election day is October 15th.

You have me stumped: acclimation means 'getting used to the environment' and I don't see what that has to do with elections. It *is* a North American word (English uses 'acclimatisation') so I checked for extra meaning that I didn't know... and M-W says there's just the one. So how does going native(?) affect an election then? And can I take advantage of this? :-)
The candidates
The unsettlingly suave gentleman who had requested the overhaul and refitting of the original Council Of Nastiness Headquarters was interviewing people and Isobella could see the candidates so far from where she was working. She recognised two of them: everyone knew Anteater Man even if he never seemed to do anything that heroic (or villainous), and Miss Pretty, the Parrotwoman, was a fixture on the front pages. Next to them, looking just a touch uncomfortable, was the Manatee but Isobella suspected that the air-conditioning was set too high and dry for someone who mostly lived in water.
There came a roar of frustration from the interview room and Haruspex, the raiser of the dead, stumbled out followed by cries of "Find Sylvestra!"
Greg - bah, I was so busy battling with the stupid red underline trying to get the spelling right that I ended up using the wrong dang word. They won by acclamation. As in, nobody ran against them so they auto-magically won their re-election.
I'm glad you found a way to make use of my error at least :P
