The exercise:

Write a four line poem about: alone.

Only one more entry and then the epic yearlong four line poem journey of 2019 comes to a close. Hard to believe.

Mine:

Buddy flipped the bed over, found the only
Master it had ever known
Had breathed his last, paused, then rolled slowly away,
Unutterably alone.

Well, I think I'll get there; I'm not saying that everything will be tied up made neat in the final stanza, but I think there'll be an ending that isn't entirely unsatisfactory. From yours today it seems like you're definitely there as well, and it will be nice to see it all pulled together somewhere; perhaps give it its own page on the site with a sidebar link like the yearlong prompts?
Ah, and the Master is dead. That is a shame, I think, but there must be consequences for actions or we'd have no stories to tell. I look forward to finding out what Buddy does after this revelation.

I'm putting in the last three or so verses because it helps contextualise the latest one. It would be nice to post all of Part IV next week but I think it'll overrun the space of one comment and, given how much vertical space it would need, that would be rather unhelpful of me. But I'll send you a final version by email if you want it :)

Alone
The seer sets down her final cards: an end-
-ing has been won. The Shadow swirls around
Her. “Open,” it commands, “the book of Luke.
The prophecies therein are met — or not?”

“The dice are tumbling still,” she says, “the fate
Of th’Unreal City is not yet confirm’d.”
Both pairs of eyes look to the book whose pa-
-ges must be turn’d. The Sailor sets his sword

And hears the cries; abandoned children with
Forgotten lives who die again each time
The sword is drawn. Alone and scared they beg
For peace and so he throws the sword away.

Greg - the page and link on the sidebar is an excellent idea. I will be sure to do that, thank you.

I would love an email with the full version of yours. I would consider it a (necessarily) late Christmas present.

That is another excellent entry. I too look forward to reading your final entry. It's been a hell of a ride.
