The exercise:

Write about: a namesake.

Tuesday April 12th, 2016

The exercise:

Write something that has to do with: what's in a name?

This is my second scheduled post, intended to cover my time away from the blog for the birth of my second son. Hopefully that happened yesterday, but maybe early today? Who knows.

I'm writing this on the evening of March 22nd. As of this moment we have yet to settle on a name for our second boy, though we do have several options that we like. We're planning on waiting to meet him before we name him, just as we did with Max.

Speaking of Max...

Mine:

Presented, without comment, a list of names that Max has suggested for his little brother:

Max
Natalie
Fireplace
Doopitiblablablah
I may not have gotten the spelling right on that one.
Wait, does that count as a comment?
Anyway, carrying on.
Straw
Leaf
Emerysn
Amersyn (Spelled Mop. Yes, I asked. He was insistent that he wasn't saying Emersyn.)
Okay, pretty sure that definitely counts as a comment. I'm out of here.

There have been others but I can't remember them right now. Mostly he's been stuck on Max though.

And although we have allowed him a vote... I'm fairly certain we will not be going with any of the above.

Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with an update on how things went. And pictures.

And a name.

The exercise:

Write something about: what's his (or her) name?

You'll see where the inspiration came from in a minute. Let me just say that I texted Kat an abbreviated version of the tale this afternoon and was left feeling like it needed to be told in all its glory.

Quiet day off around these parts. Much needed. Back at it tomorrow.

Mine:

Max and I were hanging out at our favorite coffee shop this afternoon. He was having a snack, I was having an iced coffee (because it was too hot for the normal kind - go ahead and laugh at me, mom). There was a big family at the table next to us and as they were leaving the father gave us a smile and a wave.

This got Max's attention.

"What's that?" he asked as he watched them walk down the sidewalk.

"What's what?" I countered, though I was pretty sure I knew what he meant.

"That man."

"That man?" I'll admit: I was buying myself some time. "He's a man." Obviously I needed more time.

"He has a name?"

"I'm sure he does."

"What's his name?"

"I don't know, sweetie." I was about to say something about him being a stranger, or me not knowing who he was because I had never seen him before in my entire life, but Max cut me off.

"His name is..."

"You're giving him a name?" I was very much caught off guard by this.

"Uh huh."

"Okay. What's his name?"

"His name is... his name is... his name is... Suss!"

"Suss?"

"Sussssssss. Sussssss. Sussssssss. He's Sussman!"

Do not ask. I have no idea.

The exercise:

Your prompt today: name calling.

Mine:

We had our monthly division meeting at work this morning and they brought someone in to talk about changes that are coming in at the start of next fiscal (April 1st). It was a good presentation and there were lots of good questions raised and I think it went pretty well.

But boy, let me tell you: I would have been a lot happier if my name wasn't brought up quite so much.

"You should talk to Marc about that."

"You need to meet with Marc, he's the one that knows the details of that."

"Marc is the one that takes care of that for us."

Okay, I get it. I'm about to have a crap load of work dumped on me. Can we move on now?

The really funny thing, to me at least, is that as of right now my contract runs out mid-January. Yes, I know they'll offer to extend me again beyond that. But... that doesn't mean I have to say yes.

Mwhahahahaha...

Yeah, alright, of course I'm going to say yes. It's a good position and I'm lucky to have it. I'll thank you very much to stop ruining my delusional power trip with reality.
