The exercise:
Write two haiku about: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Been listening to the audio book at bedtime with the boys recently. Rather embarrassed to admit it's the first time reading/hearing the book, and haven't watched either of the movies. It's been fun experiencing the story alongside the boys.

I read most of the Roald Dahl books when I was a kid and I prefer the book to (both of) the films -- but it is quite hard to film that book really, and the films have made good efforts. I don't know if you know it yet, but there is a sequel: Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator which is good, but slightly weird.
The one to be wary of is George's Marvellous Medicine of course, as kids immediately want to try and re-enact it for themselves... :-D
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory haiku
Children seem to die,
When they can't control themselves.
They don't, but... it's close.

The story's moral:
Actions have consequences.
(Adults may laugh now.)
Greg - I hadn't heard of the sequel until it popped up after the Chocolate Factory had ended. 'Slightly weird' is an interesting description, given the contents of the first story...
Hah, that first one sums things up pretty well. I was not at all convinced they would all survive by the end...
