Dinner for three
The table was candelit; a tall tapered white candle standing high above a centrepiece of white and purple flowers casting a warm light down onto the diners. The waiter, smartly dressed for Russian service, hovered attentively nearby. Caroline looked into David's eyes and smiled before saying, "Really? You had to bring your mother along on our date as well?"

This seems like a good setup to a delightfully awkward evening. I like the details in the opening in particular :)
