Almost caught up; two to do tomorrow and I should be there :) I'm glad you contributed a haiku last week, by the way ;-)
We're revisiting this today, mostly because I think the guest was left where they'd need to find the lift or the stairs, and that fits in nicely with 'rising'.

Rising
"The lift is a bit 'mental," said 'Fred', rubbing a finger under her nose and making a bristly sound with the hints of moustache there. "It's better at goin' down than it is at goin' up, but youse can all give it a try, just don' come complainin' like if youse finds yourselves in the basement.
"The stairs sound good," said the man, attempting a smile.
"The ones that are still there are pretty good," said 'Fred', "but you might have to jump a bit for the ones that aren't."

Greg - ah, I remembered your post as soon as I saw the prompt! So thank you for coming back to this :)

Hmm, I'd hate to see what the new arrival would find in his 'room', should he ever make it there...
