The exercise:

Your four lines of prose this week must include the words: four and zero.

Put 'em together and what do you get?!?!?

As of today, my age.

It's okay though. I hear 40 is the new 20.

Or something.

Happy Birthday! I hope that the family buy you a cake big enough to fit forty candles on it :) And that you don't set anything on fire with all those candles.
Forty seems overrated these days: when I was a kid people seemed to celebrate it a lot, but I think the world might have finally stopped assuming that 80 is as old as you'll get. Certainly the way things are going it looks like people can expect to be working till they're eighty before they can retire, so... maybe that's it :)

Forty
The staff at WrongStart were having their morning huddle -- once upon a time it had been the morning teachers's meeting, but since they now just huddled together and talked in furtive whispers they'd renamed it.
"The kids have been missing for forty days," hissed Emma.
"The divers have been gone for thirty-five then," muttered the Headmaster back. "I wonder if that voids their fee yet?"

Greg - hah. Hah. Hah.

They lit two, which is all we had leftover from previous birthday celebrations. I was fine with that.

While I do appreciate this little scene, I fear I must point out that the prompt requested that you use the words 'four' and 'zero', not forty.

Which, obviously, had nothing to do with me wanting to avoid the use of the word forty.

Which, I strongly suspect, is why you ignored the prompt and instead made sure to use the word forty...
